Personality
The Sagittarius nature
Sagittarius is mutable fire: enthusiasm that keeps moving. Astrologers describe it as optimistic, funny and hungry for experience and understanding. It needs room to explore and tells the truth as it sees it. That honesty can be blunt, and its love of freedom can make commitment feel like a cage.
Growth edge: Staying long enough to see what depth feels like.
Born on the cusp?
The dates move. Your chart doesn't.
The Sun is in exactly one sign at any moment, but the switch-over shifts by up to a day from year to year. If you were born near November 22 or December 21, only your exact birth time can say which side of the line you're on.
Sagittarius shares its element with Aries and Leo. Its opposite sign is Gemini.
Sun-sign traits describe a twelfth of the world. Your Moon, Rising and planets make them yours.
The Big Three
There's more to you than Sagittarius.
Your Sun sign comes from your birthday. Your Moon and Rising signs need the full date, time and place — and they change far faster.
Sun — your core self and identity. Changes sign about once a month.
Moon — your emotions and inner needs. Changes sign about every 2.3 days.
Rising — how you meet the world. Changes about every two hours on average.
The myth
The story of the archer
Sagittarius is usually drawn as a centaur archer, often named as Chiron. Ancient writers disagreed: Ps.-Eratosthenes and Hyginus said the Archer was Crotus, son of Pan, credited with inventing the bow — while Chiron was placed in the constellation Centaurus.
The Babylonians saw an archer here too: the god Pabilsag — so the archer figure is older than the Greek myths.
The ♐︎ glyph is the archer's arrow, drawn with a crossbar for the bow.

Sagittarius among the stars
Its brightest star is Kaus Australis, “the southern part of the bow.” The star labelled Alpha is not the brightest.
Look toward Sagittarius and you're looking toward the centre of the Milky Way — and Sagittarius A*, the black hole first imaged in 2022.
