Personality
The Pisces nature
Pisces is mutable water: feeling without fixed edges. Traditionally ruled by Jupiter and, in modern astrology, by Neptune, it is linked with empathy, creativity and a strong inner life. It absorbs the moods around it — a gift for art and care, and a reason it needs time alone to come back to itself. Boundaries are its lifelong study.
Growth edge: Knowing which feelings are its own.
Born on the cusp?
The dates move. Your chart doesn't.
The Sun is in exactly one sign at any moment, but the switch-over shifts by up to a day from year to year. If you were born near February 19 or March 20, only your exact birth time can say which side of the line you're on.
Pisces shares its element with Cancer and Scorpio. Its opposite sign is Virgo.
Sun-sign traits describe a twelfth of the world. Your Moon, Rising and planets make them yours.
The Big Three
There's more to you than Pisces.
Your Sun sign comes from your birthday. Your Moon and Rising signs need the full date, time and place — and they change far faster.
Sun — your core self and identity. Changes sign about once a month.
Moon — your emotions and inner needs. Changes sign about every 2.3 days.
Rising — how you meet the world. Changes about every two hours on average.
The myth
The story of the fishes
Fleeing the monster Typhon, Aphrodite and her son Eros reached the river Euphrates. In one version two fish carried them to safety; in another they turned into fish themselves — and the pair were set among the stars.
The cord that ties the two fish together is older than the Greek myth: Babylonian star maps already joined two figures here with a cord.
The ♓︎ glyph is two fish (the arcs) tied together by a cord (the bar).
In the night sky
Pisces among the stars
Pisces has no star brighter than magnitude 3. Alrescha — Arabic for “the cord” — marks the knot that ties the two fish together.
The March equinox point currently lies in Pisces and is slowly drifting toward Aquarius — the astronomy behind the idea of the “Age of Aquarius.”
